PLEASE NOTE: Here is no issue of Nobel Prize Controversy or Nobel Prize Criticism. Here is no quoting that this pundit said this and that expert said that. Here is simply the hardcore physics issue of a patently bogus discovery that inexplicably nobeled. The following is based on the sole scientific authority of this author.

WHAT IS THE PRIZE ABOUT?

The 2011 Physics Nobel Prize was given to Saul Perlmutter, Brian P. Schmidt and Adam G. Riess

“for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae”.

Here is a little more elaborate description of the discovery from the Nobel Foundation:

all in all, they found some 50 distant supernovae whose light seemed weaker than expected. This was contrary to what they had envisioned. If cosmic expansion had been losing speed, the supernovae should appear brighter. However, the supernovae were fading as they were carried faster and faster away, embedded in their galaxies. The surprising conclusion was that the expansion of the Universe is not slowing down – quite to the contrary, it is accelerating.

And the following language clarifies that this business is at the core really about further entrenching Big Bang Cosmology:

For almost a century, the Universe has been known to be expanding as a consequence of the Big Bang about 14 billion years ago. However, the discovery that this expansion is accelerating is astounding. If the expansion will continue to speed up the Universe will end in ice.

Put some of that ice in your scotch and get a load of this: Here is the third batch of Nobel Prizes for Big Bang Cosmology in as many decades. In 1978 the Prize was given to Penzias & Wilson for reportedly observing the relic Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR) from the Big Bang. In 2006 the Prize was given to Smoot & Mather for reportedly clinching the blackbody form of the said CMBR, and the anisoropy of same.

BUT SURELY THIS SERIES OF DISCOVERIES WAS THOROUGHLY EVALUATED FOLLOWING THE HIGHEST OF ESTABLISHED STANDARDS?

The Physics Nobel Prize Committee for 2011:
They were played for fools.

WHAT DID THE THREE HERMANOS ACTUALLY DO?

Let us take this step by step. The three hermanos made astronomical observations – as any astronomer does. These observations were reportedly most elaborate, most laborious and most difficult. Very fine! Let us not take any of that credit away from them. But when all is said and done, here is really the meat of what they did:

Made observational estimates of the luminosities of a number of high redshift supernovae.

This is the total and the complete and the entire extent of the scientific work. Everything after this is sham and scam.

WHAT DID THEY DO WITH THIS EXPERIMENTAL INFORMATION?

They said the (redshifted?) luminosities looked weaker than expected. This word “expected” is the key to everything. Expected how? By whom? On what basis? The answer is: Big Bang Cosmology. Within this Big Bang framework, the three hermanos then concluded that space in the the Big Bang universe is expanding faster – rather than slower as was previously believed by Big Bang Cosmologists.

So in the interest of full disclosure, the Nobel citation should read:

for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of space in the Big Bang Cosmology Universe through observations of distant supernovae.

This is a discovery within Big Bang Cosmology. With a little parsing, this is a discovery [within Big Bang Cosmology]. Stated in shorthand, this is a discovery. Get it?

Without Big Bang Cosmology, all we have here are the tabulated luminosities of some 50 supernovae with tabulated redshift, period. Important astronomical data no doubt, but nothing more at this time.

Outside of Big Bang Cosmology, there is no basis whatsoever to say that these luminosities are too weak or two strong or as expected.

Luminosity is luminosity. Parts is parts.

Incidentally, I am reminded of the Physics Phenom Brian Greene. In the dust jacket of one of his books, he says he has made many discoveries within String Theory. That’s the kind of thing we are looking at here. And I have the title of a Lord [from the kingdom of Freedonia]. And I am also a multimillionaire [in Italian Lira].

A Nobel Prize for Greene the Discoverer [within String Theory] in the works? Nothing surprises me anymore.

BUT ISN’T THE EXPANSION OF THE UNIVERSE – IF NOT OF SPACE – AN ESTABLISHED FACT INDEPENDENT OF BIG BANG COSMOLOGY?

Not at all.

A proper physics discussion of the so-called cosmological redshift never took place because of bullying by the Big Bang Cosmologists. This year’s Nobel itself is a happening example of this bullying – of issuing imprimaturs to shut out all scientific debate. Things such as flight-time effects on light needed to be discussed and debated in depth. There are new considerations such as the suggestion that photons may have a non-zero mass. That would revolutionize cosmology.

The unsubstantiated Big Bang foundational assumption that light travels for 8 billion years through a magnetized plasma universe without any effect whatsoever is something that cannot agree with good physics guts.

And these guts may also have trouble accepting on faith Big Bang-ers’ make-believe universe where gigantic objects are moving at fantastic speeds – speeds that are “real” enough to produce enormous Doppler shifts. And now they are accelerating! And the extra energy is coming from the Ectoplasm of the universe called Dark Energy! And mind you, everything new that you postulate every so often in Big Bang was all initially contained in the little dot – the Atom Primitif. That there is in actuality their secret Wishing Well.

So, outside of Big Bang Cosmology, the expansion of the universe or space is by no means an established fact. The scientific process that would establish this (or not) was never allowed to take place.

Well, it is actually a little more subtle than that. What happened is that the Big Bang Cosmologists simply would not engage in any such debate. With their “political” muscle they started to see themselves as above the scientific process. They just forged ahead. They were no longer doing science. And they are not doing science today.

Now, one might think that I am making expansive historical arguments that have no place in hard scientific criticism. One would be completely off base. If you read carefully the justification the Nobel folks have provided for this year’s prize, they have used expansive historical arguments to justify their award. Why did they do this? Because they know there are things in history they need to cover up.

History is the key in this cold case.

As to hard science, always remember – don’t ever forget:

No expansion, no acceleration of the expansion.

Luminosity is lumonosity. Parts is parts.

BUT FOR THOSE WHO ACCEPT THAT BIG BANG IS THE SCIENTIFICALLY CORRECT GENESIS, THERE IS HERE A CONSUMMATED, LEGITIMATE DISCOVERY, RIGHT?

Not by a long shot.

The Big Bang-ers are to this day completely confused and discombobulated about what their own expansion of the universe actually is. In particular, consider the so-called cosmological redshift which is the proof and the measure of this expansion.

Sometimes they say that this redshift is a Doppler shift – resulted from the line-of-sight velocity of the source away from the observer. In this view, as soon as the light leaves the source, it is fully redshifted and does not change anymore during its flight.

Other times they say this redshift is due to the stretching of space. Light leaves the source at its original wavelength, and is gradually stretched during its flight due to the stretching of space.

If you think about it, you will find that these two views are not equivalent. They have different consequences. The concept of Big Bang expansion – the foundation of Big Bang – remains ambiguous physicswise, to say the very least.

And now we have “Acceleration” of this “Expansion”. This is like a hermaphrodite cross-dresser. Never in the history of physics has something so addled been considered a consummated discovery by the scientific community.

Finally, my solid debunking of the Big Bang Blackbody Spectrum – which they said was their unarguable proof of expansion of the early universe – removes the only observational evidence of that expansion. This pulls the rug from under the Big Bang-ers. This should have stopped them cold. The fact that they still continue as if nothing was amiss has one and only one explanation: This is an awfully dishonest and dishonorable lot of scientific professionals. They are so crooked that they have to screw on their underwears. Never in history of science have we seen such scourge as this.

WHAT IF THE BIG BANG-ERS CLEAR UP ALL THIS?

It is too late. Big Bang Cosmology is finished. Khel khatam, paisa hazam. (Hindi saying meaning: The show is over, the ticket is now worthless.)

What you are seeing of Big Bang activity today is a cadaver dressed up in Savile Row suit to look alive. Heavy cosmetics have been applied to its face. The cadaver has been daubed in deodorants and perfumes. From time to time they stick it with an electric cattle prod to articulate it.

Today’s Big Bang Cosmologist is Norman Bates, and Big Bang Cosmology is his mother. That’s about the size of it.

The “inflationary” Big Bang-ers especially – for their own safety – should be put in straitjackets in padded cells.

NASA – for whatever reason – has cooled on Perlmutter’s favorite multi-billion dollar kite – the proposed WFIRST Satellite. This is an unusually bold decision that for once favors public good over pampering of bad-but-powerful cabals of scientists. I hope NASA is not bowled over by the Nobel Prize into changing its mind.

WHAT IF THEY JETTISON THE BIG BANG BLACKBODY?

OK, so if they now give up on the relic blackbody and cut John Mather loose, does that save “the discovery” of the three hermanos? No. Because without the relic blackbody, there is no Big Bang Cosmology. Without Big Bang Cosmology, there is no accepted view of expansion of space. Without expansion of space, there is no acceleration of the expansion.

AND WHAT ABOUT MEDIA OF ALL DESCRIPTION – SCIENCE MEDIA, POPULAR SCIENCE MEDIA, MASS MEDIA, BLOGOSPHERE – SINGING HIGH PRAISE FOR THE 2011 PHYSICS NOBEL?

These reporters are taking the line that the scientific establishment has fed them, and then adding to it their personal touch, their “moves.” They are trying to show that when it comes to deep science, they are hip. They are jumping up and down and spreading the good cheer. If the establishment tells them “Sitttt”, they will curl up their tails and sit.

Remember that some of these very same reporters created the very same kind of exalted media frenzy when Smoot and Mather nobeled with the Wotld’s greatest science fraud. They just could not find enough superlatives and strong enough superlatives to work into their naratives!

When it comes to the scientific quality of the discovery, the reporters don’t know their butt from a hole in the ground.

LASTLY, IS THERE SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT UC BERKELEY?

It certainly seems that way. First they removed the pin and lobbed on us John Mather. Then they unleashed George Smoot. And now this Perlmutter guy. There may be a “The Spawn” pond hidden somewhere in Berkeley – may be up near Grizzly Peak.

OH WELL, MAY BE THIS IS THE LAST BATCH OF BIG BANG NOBELS?!

‘Fraid not. In making this year’s award the Nobel-givers have signaled that Dark Energy is the coming thing, and they stand ready to anoint it. There will be a multi-billion dollar satellite scam “discovering” Dark Energy, and it will be followed by another Big Bang Nobel.

WHAT IS THE FINAL CONCLUSION?

(1). The step from tabulated values of luminosity to the shock-jock cosmology discovery is a total scientific sham.

(2). The unchecked scientific “indulgences” being issued to the Big Bang-ers and the ruthless suppression of scientific debate are the sure signs that the scientific civilization is in decline – due largely to human agencies.

The formula for Nobeling in physics stands all too clear now – as I have exposed over the last four years, on a database of three decades. A “discovery” is reported in a “peer-reviewed journal”. The discovery is a scam and the peer review is a sham.

Now the scientific lecture circuit hots up. The media is mobilized and PBS TV is mobilized. The Nobel bookmakers are mobilized. The campaign gathers momentum apace.

The discoverers become funky photogenic rock stars of physics – complete with the intellectual versions of the windmill and moonwalk moves and pelvic thrusts. The Google images pages bear testimony to this.

Various precursor awards to the Nobel Prize are made, creating a crescendo of drumbeat towards the Main Evernt. The Nobel follows in due course.
