LIGO: What every Indian citizen should know

In recent days there have been three high profile authoritative affirmations of the LIGO discovery:

The affirmation by NSF Director France Cordova and India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 March 2016

The affirmation by LIGO Executive Director David Reitze on 4 April 2016

The affirmation by Kip thorne on 6 April 2016

It is ALL SYSTEMS GO with LIGO.

And now will be coming the LIGO prizes and accolades out the wazoo. Kip Thorne will be TIME Magazine’s Man of the Year and David Reitze – like his predecessors John Mather and John Kovac – will be Most influential Man. France Cordova will receive some type of US Congressional Medal, and also an India Government medal. While the Nobel Prize will not come until October 2017, there are many other prizes that will be awarded in the meantime (Gruber Prize, Kavli Prize, Shaw Prize, …). You may see a tuxedoed Rainer Weiss standing next to a Hollywood diva, holding a silly wire contraption.

I am most disappointed that the physics establishment did not step up to the plate even this time, and deal with the impostors in their temple.

I am praiseful that two establishment stalwarts – Steven Weinberg and Edward Witten – have pointedly withheld public comment on LIGO.

I continue my chosen task of educating the world.
